1st time ever kayaking. Had a fantastic time. great weekend. friendly people. We Will definitely go back.
We all had a lot of fun in the end, but I will have reservations about going back.
The next truck came about 30 minutes later and some group started yelling that this was their load, I grabbed the guy whom was told to give me the next double and he just said he could not do anything about it.
My advice is to get some sort of organization. If you have a group for 9:00 reservations, stand out there and make sure they are the ones getting on the bus.
At this time I was finished being a nice guy, and grabbed one myself and joined my waiting group, I was holding the whole show up because I needed a double for my son and I.
The ladies in the front office are super nice, the drivers were nice, the kayak/canoe handlers were hit or miss.
Once we finally got on the river, the experience was great.
People, with reservations or not, would rush the bus and jump on ahead of anyone else.
The story:
Two phone calls to the office and two hours later, of waiting in the heat, I was told to give the phone to one of the workers, which was told, "no matter what, the next double that comes through, give to this gentleman".
We had a reservation for our group and were suppose to be on the water at 9:00 am. We were not even on the bus at 9:00.
Again, being a God fearing man and general "lead by example" person, especially in front of my son. I avoided the potential conflict, the guy had been drinking the whole wait, I finished putting the kayak in the water and shoved off, leaving them two to work it out.
The float down from Seminary is Awesome! It was my first time using a canoe, and I really enjoyed it. Beautiful creek, with lots of trees providing shade on much of the route. We really took our time and stopped a lot, so it took 6 hours. We got back after dark, paddled up by moonlight. They forgot about all about us! Luckily someone was still there with or keys, which were left in the office so we wouldn't lose them. Watch out for the last big rapid, it's a big 'un, we flipped on it at sunset. The rapid before that isn't too bad, but we portaged it and left our gear on shore before taking the canoe back up to float it.
If you see that there are a lot of walk ins, wait until your reserved patrons have been taken care of.
Communicate what is needed and have that load waiting for the reserved time spots.
I was followed down to the water by another worker and another guy whom had been buddy buddy with him the whole time telling me that was his kayak, he wasn't with the group that had "claimed" the load.
Amazingly fun. Hospitable staff provides a simply splendid experirnce. Cabins are beautiful inside and out. Highly suggest your family stay and enjoy full experience.
We had a reservation for a group of 13 on 7-22-17.
We finally got on the bus and made it to the river entry, and found out that there were not any kayaks available and they would be bringing some.
They no longer offer the long float due to the condition of the creek. 8 mile float is NOT 8 miles. It's 6 miles. Other than that, the float was amazing! We even camped out on the shore for the night.
The rest of the trip was great.
